Aging tends to tinge the human lens a yellowish hue and the lens acts as a filter, preventing near ultraviolet rays from affecting retina.

Cyanopsia has been reported following cataract surgery. Intraocular and human lens transmittance differ. To obtain normal postoperative color vision, we prepared an ultraviolet-cut noncyanopsia intraocular lens (UVCY-IOL) that transmittance curve was identical to the human lens of 53 years of age and performed various color vision tests on the IOL implanted eye. Total error score in a 100-hue test significantly decreased in the UVCY-IOL group compared to the clear-IOL group and no significant difference exists between UVCY-IOL group and UV-IOL group. In addition, few subjects complained of photophobia and cyanopsia subjec-tively.
