We reviewed the result of surgery in 200 cases of blowout fracture of the orbit during a 5-year period. Upward gaze restriction was the most frequent at 50 %, followed by up-and-down and downward gaze restriction at 25 % each. Cases with bony defect resulted in better improvement in ocular motility when operated within one month after injury. Cases with linear defect, including trapdoor, showed better results when operated within 3 days after injury. Enophthalmos of more than 3 mm was initially present in 16 cases. It persisted after surgery in 3 cases that were operated at one month or later after injury. Early surgery thus induced better improvement in ocular motility and enophthalmos in blowout fracture of the orbit.
