We evaluated the visual function in 29 eyes that had lost the central visual field. The series com-prised advanced glaucoma 14 eyes and retinitis pigmentosa 15 eyes. The visual field in glaucoma eyes was categorized as Vb after Kozaki's classification. We used a Low Vision Evaluator (LoVE) in assessing the visual function. The residual peripheral visual field by Goldmann perimetry was evaluated by the solid angle of resid-ual visual field, or steradian, as parameter. There were high correlations between the visual field and LoVE score in glaucoma (r=0.8437, p<0.001) and retinitis pigmentosa (r=0.8415, p <0.001) . There were findings that the physiological function of residual field may differ between the two diseases.
