We evaluated the accommodation and uncorrected visual acuity following linearly polarized near-infrared irradiation to the stellate ganglion area. The treatment was performed on 75 healthy adults and 119 children with presumed pseudomyopia. The treatment was performed for 7 minutes once a week to be re-peated for 1 week to 7 months. All the cases were examined for uncorrected and corrected visual acuity, sub-jective refraction, and intraocular pressure. Uncorrected visual acuity improved by two lines or more in 65% of children. There were no changes in the other parameters. The range of accommodation and the pupil size were measured using a refractometer in 78 eyes of 39 adults and 14 eyes of 7 children. All the eyes showed significantly increased range of accomodation after treatment (p<0.01). There was no change in the pupil size. It was presumed that the increase in the range of accommodation was due to altered sympathetic nerv-ous system and to changes in the ciliary body function secondary to increased intraocular circulation.
