  • Look Inside

We measured the contrast sensitivity in 67 eyes soon after uneventful cataract surgery with implantation of foldable intraocular lenses (IOLs). Following IOLs were used : hydrogel IOL 25 eyes, silicone IOL 12 eyes, and acryl soft IOL 30 eyes. Day vision contrast sensitivity was measured using a multivision contrast tester (MCT8000TM, Vistech). Measurement was performed 0.4 to 3.6 months (average 1.7months) after surgery. There was no difference in the mean value of contrast sensitivity among the three types of IOL. The finding seemed to show that hydrogel IOL would not affect the visual function due to posterior capsular opacity or formation of lens epithelial cell layer during the early postoperative period.
