  • Look Inside

We reviewed the surgical outcome of 18 eyes in 15 cases with persistent hyperplastic primary vitreous with shallow anterior chamber during the foregoing 23 years. The follow-up period after surgery ranged from 1 to 21 months, average 10 years 9 months. The series comprised 11 eyes of 9 males and 7 eyes of 6 females. The condition was unilateral in 9 cases and bilateral in 6. Fundus lesions were present in 14 eyes of 12 cases. All the 18 eyes underwent lens extraction and anterior vitrectomy. The age at the time of surgery ranged from 2 months to 6 years, average 1 year 3 months. Clear cornea with deep anterior chamber resulted in 17 eyes (94% ) . The findings show the usefulness of this therapeutic modality in preventing secondary glaucoma and in maintaining the eyeglobe.
