  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

A retrolental white mass was detected in the left eye of a female baby on her 15th day of life. The mass contained a red-colored component. The cor-nea and the crystalline lens were clear. The white mass prevented funduscopy except the temporal periphery. We identified a dense retrolental mass and a V-shaped image related with the optic discby B-scan ultrasonography. Flash visually evoked cortical potential was identical for both eyes.

We performed pars plana vitrectomy on the 22th day of life. The mass was not adherent with the lens or the retina but was firmly connected with the optic disc. The retina appeared to be intact. The lens could be preserved. The postsurgical course has been uneventful for 6 months after surgery. Early vitrectomy in such a situation is recommend-ed in order to save the eye from deprivation amb-lyopia.
