  • Look Inside

We treated a 2-year-old male child with corneal injury which proved to be a part of battered child syndrome. We faced following problems during the course of treatment. 1. Medical workers do not have full knowledge about how to deal with cases of battered child syndrome. 2. The requirement by Child Welfare Law to report such cases is not generally known. Medical personnel is not exempted from immunity from consequences of reporting. 3. There is insufficient coordination among medical institutions, child guidance offices and welfare centers. 4. It is not possible to offer protection to the victim child without consent of parents. We advocate immediate revision of laws and education of medical personnel.
