We quantitated the posterior capsular opacity in 71 eyes after cataract surgery by using an anterior eye segment analysis system, EAS 1000. The posterior capsule was transparent in 37 eyes. Fibrotic opacification or Elschnig pearls was present in 34 eyes. Scheimpflug slit images were examined for each 12 sections from 0° to 165° . Average density value was derived from densitometric analysis and was then compared with the gradings of opacity level assessed by slitlamp biomicroscopy. The density values of eyes with fibrotic opacification or Elschnig pearls were well correlated with the gradings, showing the usefulness of the present anterior eye segment analysis system.
