  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We studeid 87 cases of primary Sjogren's syndrome regarding the severity of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), salivary gland disorders and autoantibodies. The severity of KCS was positively associated with salivary scintigraphy, anti-SS-A antibody, focus score in lip biopsies, Schirmer and Saxon tests. It was poorly associated with autonuclear antibodies, age of patients, stage of the disease and rheumatoid factor. KCS was either mild or absent in 44 cases (51%) with positive salivary scintigraphy or lip biopsies. More sensitive ophthalmological tests are needed in order to diagnose Sjogren's syndrome from ocular manifestations.
