We performed excimer laser photorefractive keratectomy on 24 eyes. The eyes were evaluated by photodensitometry for the subepithelial corneal haze using an anterior segment analysis system. The corneal haze was assessed by measuring the intensity of scattering light and also clinically after the method by Fantes. There was a significant correlation between the intensity of scattering light and the clinical grades of corneal haze (r=0.64, p=0.003). The intensity of corneal haze was also significantly correlated with the ablation depth (r=0.71, p=0.003). Patients with high scattering light intensity tended to show decreased contrast sensitivity during night vision with central glare.
