We evaluated the changes in contrast sensitivity before and after photorefractive surgery in 30 myopic eyes. There was no significant difference between pre- and postoperative contrast sensitivity scores when evaluated as average. Some eyes showed improved corneal sensitivity after surgery. Contributing factors were: myopia of less than -6 diopters, postoperative far visual acuity of 1.0 or more at 3 months, subepithelial corneal opacity of grade 1 or less after Fantes, decentralization by less than 1.0 mm. Myopia over -10 diopters before surgery showed improvements in contrast sensitivity after surgery.
