We evaluated the predictability of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) in 50 eyes using a scanning-slit technique. These eyes had myopia of mean -8.0D before treatment. They were observed for 6 months or more after PRK of mean -6.1D. The difference between the intended and actual corrections averaged +0.1D at 6 months and -0.2D at one year after treatment. Correction within ±1D of intended correction was achieved in'24 of 29 eyes, 83%. Correction within ±2D was achieved in 27 of 29 eyes, 93%. When correction up to -10D was intended, 20 of 27 eyes, 85%, were corrected within ±1D. The findings show that PRK using scanning-slit technique has a high predictability for correcting myopia within -10D.
