We quantitated the corneal haze following excimer laser keratectomy using EAS-1000, an anterior segment analysis system by Nidek. This system shows the profiles of cornea, anterior chamber and the lens and measures the intensity of scatter in given points or areas in the profile. Keratectomy was performed on 22 eyes of albino rabbits with EC-5000, a scanning excimer laser system by Nidek. The cornea was examined before and after keratectomy by slitlamp biomicroscope and the system. Corneal scattering before and 2, 4, 8 and 12 weeks after surgery averaged 78.3 (n=6), 164.1 (n=12), 188.2 (n=11), 156.3 (n= 8) and 138.8 (n=8) respectively. The intensity of scatter light was positively correlated with the grading of corneal haze by slitlamp biomicroscopy by the methods of Fantes et al.
