Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured in 368 eyes with an automated noncontact tonometer (NCT) repeated 3 times and by Goldmann applanation tonometer (GAT). Apparently healthy persons enrolled in health-check program served as test subjects. The IOP averaged 13.5±2.6 mmHg by GAT. IOP by NCT averaged 11.4±3.2 mmHg for the first measurement, 11.4±3.3 for the second and 11.5±3.4 for the third. Averaged IOP for three measurements by NCT averaged 11.4±3.1. The minimum and maximum IOP for each eye by NCT averaged 10.3±3.1 and 12.7±3.2. All these NCT values were significantly lower than those by GAT (p<0.01). Correlation coefficients between the GAT and the above five NCT values were 0.567, 0.572, 0.565, 0.595 and 0.591. They were lower than reported values by manually operated NCT values.
