We measured the intraocular pressure in 929 apparently healthy eyes enrolled in a health-check program. Tonometry with Goldmann applanation tonometer averaged 14.7±3.4 mmHg (x). Tonometery with a new automated noncontact tonometer CT-50 (Topcon, Tokyo) averaged 15.2±4.0mmHg (y). Both methods gave similar readings (p<0.001). In 91% of the eyes, the readings of consecutive three measure-ments by CT-50 in each eye were within±3mmHg. The regression equation was y=0.870x+2.40. The best correlation coefficient between both methods was 0.736. This value was lower than reported values by manually operated noncontact tonometers.
