A definition of traumatic rupture of eyeball is proposed. A: Scleral rupture located more than 6 mm from the corneal limbus caused by external blunt force. B: Scleral rupture extending more than 6mm from the limbus due mainly to blunt force. We reviewed 32 cases seen during the past 8 years, comprising 29 males and 3 females. The ages ranged from 20 to 49 years. The accident was more frequent during September. The upper temporal quadrant was most frequently involved. Visual outcome was worse when scleral rupture involved 2 quadrants and when the wound extended to more than 11mm from the limbus. Good visual acuity resulted when the wound extended to less than 10mm from the limbus. Vitreous surgery was beneficial in improving the overall outcome in the present series.
