  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We observed 3 cases of marginal corneal ulcer folowing extraocular cataract extraction with pos-terior chamber lens implantation. The ulcer became manifest 10 to 12 months after cataract surgery. It was located along and inner to the superior corneoscleral limbus. The surgical wound had been closed by 8-0 silk thread in 2 eyes and 8-0 polyglactin in the other. The ulcer was cured by systemic and topical corticosteroid. Corticosteroid was ineffective in 2 eyes. Cure was induced by excision of the adjacent conjunctiva. The marginal ulcer seemed to have been induced by inflammatory or immunological process, possibly due to the retained suture material.
