  • Look Inside

We evaluated the ocular complications after panretinal photocoagulation (PRP) for diabetic retinopathy in 73 eyes, 43 patients. The series com-prised preproliferative diabetic retinopathy 25 eyes and proliferative one 48 eyes. The ages ranged from 30 to 76 years, mean 51 years. The follow-up period ranged from 60 to 150 months, mean 93 months. Retinal neovascularization developed in 9 of 25 eyes with preproliferative retinopathy. Vitreous hemorrhage occurred in 4 eyes with preprolifer-ative retinopathy and in 33 eyes with proliferative one. First vitreous hemorrhage after PRP occurred within 6 months in 49% of these 37 eyes and within 2 years in 73%. Traction retinal detachment devel-oped in one eye with preproliferative retinopathy and in 10 eyes with proliferative one. It was prone to develop in eyes manifesting fibrovascular mem-brane before PRP. Rubeosis iridis without glau-coma developed in 3 eyes with proliferative retinopathy.
