Abstract. Purpose:To report changes in retinal hemodynamics after successful panretinal photocoagularion(PRP)for diabetic retinopathy. Cases and Method:This study was made on 47 eyes of pre-or proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Another series of 29 normal eyes served as control. The interval between dye appearance in the optic disc and dye filling of perifoveal capillaries was defined as disc-to-macula transit time. A scanning laser ophthalmoscope(SLO)was used for angiographic recording at the rate of 30 frames per second. Results:Visual acuity improved in 20 eyes(42%)after PRP,remained the same in 22 eyes(47%),and decreased in 5 eyes(11%). Disc-to-macula transit time averaged 3.7±0.7 seconds in normal eyes,9.3±3.0 seconds before and 6.6±2.4 seconds after PRP in the diabetic eyes. Conclusion:Disc-to-macula transit time is prolonged in diabetic than in normal eyes. It significantly shortens after successful PRP. This value was longer than the normal value.
