  • Look Inside

We reviewed the objective and subjective out-comes of vitreous surgery for epiretinal membranes in 78 eyes, 78 patients, performed during a 78 -month period. The epiretinal membranes were idiopathic in 29 eyes and were related to macular pucker secondary to retinal breaks or rheg-matogenous retinal detachment in 49 eyes. In theidiopathic cases, visual acuity improved in 86%, metamorphopsia decreased or disappeared in 45%, and 62% of patients were satisfied with the surgical outcome. In cases of macular pucker, visual acauity improved in 88%, metamorphopopsia decreased or disappeared in 58%, and 60% of patients were satisfied with the surgical outcome. In the idiopath-ic cases, satisfaction with surgery was positively correlated with improvement in metamorphopsia. In cases of macular pucker, satisfaction about sur-gery was positively correlated with the postoper-ative visual acuity.
