  • Look Inside

We evaluated 95 eyes in 56 cases with dysgenesis of anterior ocular segment due to abnormal neural crest cell migration during the foregoing 8-year period. The series comprised posterior embryotox-on 31 eyes 17 cases, Axenfeld-Rieger syndrome 21 eyes 13 cases, Peters' anomaly 28 eyes 19 cases and sclerocornea 15 eyes 9 cases. Two cases in the series manifested different types of anomaly in either eye. There was a tendency for corneal opacity to gradu-ally resolve in cases with Peters' anomaly without corneolenticular adhesion. As associated abnormal-ities in the series, there were Alagille syndrome, congenital heart diseases, microphthalmos, mi-crocornea and glaucoma. The present findings indi-cate that abnormal neural crest cell migration results in a wide spectrum of developmental dis-orders including : posterior embryotoxon, Axenfeld -Rieger syndrome, Peters' anomaly and sclerocor-nea.
