  • Look Inside

We treated 94 eyes, 80 patients, with lacrimal obstructions by implanting silicone tube of Craw-ford. The ages ranged from 2 to 78 years. All the cases were followed up for 6 months or longer. Seventy cases were followed up for 1 year or lon-ger. We used probes and occasionally disposable needles to perforate the obstructions in the lacrimal canaliculus. The treatment was successful in all the27 eyes but one in 25 patients under 30 years of age. Success was achieved in 49 out of 67 eyes, 73%, in 55 patients aged 30 years or over. Additional dacryocystorhinostomy was often necessary to achieve success in patients aged 30 years or over. The silicone tube had to remain in situ for an average of 6 months to a chieve lasting patency of the lacrimal passage.
