  • Look Inside

We conducted an epidemiological survey ofretinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in Aichi Prefec-ture in central Japan for 2 years, 1986-87. There were a total of 1,947 premature infants who were hospitalized in neonatal centers in the area. In view of Yearbook of Aichi Prefecture for the same period, our series include 75% of all infants with the birthweight of 1,500 g or less in the area. Figures regarding neonatal mortality rate and incidence of ROP were essentially similar to those in other multicenter prospective studies. The general status of management of premature infants in the present study was compatible with the standard in Japan. Our data seemed to be respresentative of actual incidence of ROP in current Japan.
