フェノールレッド綿糸法による小児涙液貯留量の測定

Tear fluid test in children with phenol red cotton thread

　小児118例で涙液貯留最をフェノールレッド綿糸法で測定した。対象は男児59例，女児59例であり，年齢は4歳から9歳，平均6.1歳であった。開瞼状態で測定し，両眼の平均を測定値とした。118例の測定値は正規分布を示し，平均値は19.14±7.50 mmであった。19例に1％アトロピン®を5日間，1日2回点眼した後では，涙液量は有意に減少していた（p＜0.01）。同法は刺激が少なく測定が短時間でできるため，小児の涙液量の測定に有用と考えられた。

We measured the tear volume in 118 normal children with phenol red cotton thread method. The series comprised 59 males and 59 females. The age ranged from 4 to 9 years, average 6.1 years. The result of measurement showed normal distribution in tear fluid volume and averaged 19.14±7.5mm. After instillation of 1% atropine twice daily for 5 days in 19 cases, the tear volume was significantly reduced (p＜0.01). The present method to be of clinical use in children as it is non-invasive and less time-consuming.
