　眼科領域に於ける局所麻酔剤としては未だにコカインが使われているのは，麻酔効果がこれに匹敵するものがないためによるが，最近合成化学の発達により各種の新麻酔剤が合成乃至配合され登場して来た。我国で使用されつつある主なものは，先ずプロカイン系製剤としては，Tubocain（吉富），Depocain, Oily （大日本製薬），Long-cain （万有），Daicain （第一），Etercain （中村滝）いずれもプロカインの局所麻酔作用を長期持続するため，溶媒としてベンチールアルコールを用いたり，更にアミノ安息香酸ブチールを加え，相乗的麻酔作用を期待している。又特殊な合成剤としては次の4種がある。

On the evalution of the effect of new local anesthetic drugs, i.e. Corn ecain, Onocain and Xylocain, on the eye it is necessary to consider in the intensity of the irritation as well as that of the anesthesia caused by these drugs. The effect of these drugs was investigated on the basis of the measurement of lacrimation rate and it was known that this test could become a proper indicator showing the conditions of the eye at or after dropping these drugs into the conjunctival sac.
