Abstract Purpose:To report our vitreoretinal surgery simulator using a silicone mold.

Subjects and Methods:(1)A spherical silicone mold with a 25 mm diameter was prepared as a simulated eye, and the hole in the center was enlarged with scissors.(2)The mold was turned over and spray glue was applied to the bottom to create a thin membrane.(3)After returning the mold to its original shape, it was fixed to the mannequin's eye orbit with a needle.(4)Vitreoretinal surgery practice was conducted using actual surgical instruments. Non- vitreoretinal surgeons evaluated its usefulness using a questionnaire.

Results:The simulator was relatively easy to create. The shape and rigidity of the silicone mold were similar to that of the human eye, and the spray glue pseudo-membrane provided an excellent detachment sensation. The translucency and windowed structure provided excellent visibility and was useful for practicing buckle surgery and vitreous base indentation.

Conclusion:The silicone mold is an inexpensive and readily available simulated eye, and its simple shape make it a useful and ingenious surgical simulator.
