Abstract Objective:Here we report a notable response to sub-Tenon injection of triamcinolone acetonide(STTA)in a cace of posterior scleritis.

Case:A 76-year-old man presented to another doctor with a chief complaint of visual field disturbance in the right eye. A serous retinal detachment(SRD)was observed in the right eye, which resolved spontaneously. One month later, his visual acuity was(1.2)in both eyes, but SRD appeared in the left eye. Two months later, his visual acuity in the left eye decreased to the optic disc, so he was referred to our hospital. The patient had conjunctival and scleral hyperemia and anterior chamber inflammation in both eyes. The patient was found to have left vitreous opacity, optic nerve papillary swelling, choroidal wrinkle wall and inflammation of the left sclera and optic nerve periphery. After five days of subconjunctival injection of dexamethasone in the left eye, conjunctival and scleral hyperemia improved, and after STTA on day seven, choroidal wrinkle wall and SRD were quickly reduced, and the final visual acuity of the left eye improved to(0.6).

Conclusion:Our results suggest that STTA may be effective in the treatment of posterior scleritis.
