Abstract Purpose:To assess whether a new tablet device software is useful as an assist tool for working individuals with visual disabilities.

Cases and methods:We compared the use of old and new versions of tablet software to assist 10 caregivers to manage individuals with field abnormalities, especially those with ring scotoma.

Results:There was no one who “could not imagine” with both the old and new versions;however, with the old version, there was 1 person who “could imagine a little,” 8 persons who “could imagine,” and 1 person who “could imagine very well.” On the other hand, with the new version, there were 2 persons who “could imagine” and 8 persons who “could imagine very well” the ring scotoma. There was a statistically significant difference between the usefullness of new and old versions.

Conclusion:The new version ensured easier application to imagine the ring scotoma and also helped supporters deepen their understanding of ocular diseases.
