Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome after insertion of toric intraocular lens(IOL)up to one month of surgery. Cases and Method:This study was made on 50 eyes of 40 patients with cataract. They received surgery by one surgeon and were inserted with TECNIS® Toric IOL. They were evaluated regarding astigmatism before surgery, refraction and visual acuity up to one month after surgery. Results:There was no complication during or after surgery throughout. Corrected visual acuity, when expressed as logMAR, averaged 0.34 before surgery and 0.07 one month after surgery. The difference was significant(p<0.01). When expressed as decimal visual acuity, 92% of eyes had 0.6 or over and 76% had 0.8 or over. Corneal astigmatism averaged 1.27±0.46 diopter before surgery. Total astigmatism one month after surgery averaged 0.45±0.27 diopter. With-the-rule astigmatism before surgery tended to be over-corrected after surgery. Against-the-rule astigmatism tended to be undercorrected. Conclusion:Insertion of toric IOL was followed by correction of astigmatism and by improved visual acuity without correction.
