Abstract Purpose: To report the long-term outcome of treatment with rebamipide ophthalmic solution for dry eye with superficial punctate keratopathy.

Cases and Method: This study was made on 27 eyes of 15 cases with superficial punctate keratopathy. The series comprised one male and 14 females. The age ranged from 25 to 80 years, average 61 years. Allergic conjunctivitis was present in 7 eyes. Cases were treated by instillation of rebamipide ophthalmic solution. Severity of superficial punctate keratopathy was evaluated in terms of score based on area density classification.

Results: Treatment was continued for 664 to 1,135 days, average 979 days. Frequency of instillation averaged 4 times daily during the initial one month and 2.2 times daily during the whole period of treatment. Area density score improved significantly after one month of treatment(p<0.0001). There was no change in area density score after one month or longer.

Conclusion: Instillation of rebamipide ophthalmic solution was effective for superficial punctate keratopathy over prolonged period. Instillation of 4 and 2 times daily was effective as short-term and long-term treatment respectively.
