Abstract. Purpose:To report the outcome of intravitreal ranibizumab or vitrectomy in retinal vein occlusion with macular edema. Cases and Method:This retrospective study was made on 30 eyes of retinal vein occlusion treated during the past 41 months. The series comprised 17 eyes with branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO)and 13 eyes with central retinal vein occlusion(CRVO). All the eyes received intraviteal ranibizumab in one or more sessions. Vitrectomy was performed in 10 out of 17 eyes with BRVO and in 6 out of 13 eyes with CRVO. Cases were followed up for an average of 10 months. Results:Visual acuity improved in average in eyes with BRVO irrespective of additional vitrectomy. Foveal thickness decreased in average in eyes with BRVO. There was no significant change in visual acuity in eyes with CRVO. Conclusion:Visual acuity improved following intravitreal ranibizumab with or without vitrectomy in eyes of BRVO with macular edema.
