  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

We evaluated 83 eyes in 42 subjects with past history of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) with particular attention to identify risk factors for angle-closure glaucoma. All the eyes showed mild cicatricial ROP without retrolental mass compat-ible to grade 0 to 2 of the disease. The subjects were aged between 3 and 23 years.

The incidence of myopia increased along with the grade of cicatricial ROP. The myopia in the present series differed from ordinary type of myopia as the axial length tender to be shorter with shallower anterior chamber and thicker crystalline lens. In eyes showing grade 2-mild and 2-severe cicatricial ROP, the lens was significantly thicker and the anterior chamber was shallower than eyes with grade 0 cicatricial ROP.

The observed findings seemed to indicate that eyes with cicatricial ROP of grade 2-moderate and over carry a greater liability to develop angle -closure glaucoma even in the presence of high myopia.
