　スペキュラーマイクロスコープ撮影をより簡便に行うことのできる特殊コンタクトレンズ（SMレンズ）を開発した。このレンズはhydro—xymethylmetacrylate soft contact lens （Dk＝8.5，含水率38％，中心厚0.50mm）と中心に直径5.5mmの窓のあいた重ねコンタクトレンズからできている。スペキュラーマイクロスコープのコーンレンズはこの窓を通してベースレンズに接する。このレンズを用いることにより以下のような利点がある。1）コーンレンズによる角膜上皮に対する障害が軽減できる。2）患者の開瞼を容易にする。3）コーンレンズからの余分の反射を少なくし，涙液層を排除して余分な反射を防ぎ角膜上皮撮影を容易にする。

　撮影された角膜上皮の写真は鮮明で，いわゆるbright cell, medium cell, dark cellがはっきりと識別できる。SMレンズを用いたスペキュラーマイクロスコープ撮影により検査自体が容易となり上皮の観察が可能になった。

We developed a new contact lens for specularmicroscopy to facilitate photography of cornealepithelium.This contact lens consists of twoparts:a base of 0.5mm in thickness and a tunnellens of 5.5mm in diameter. These two lens compo-nents have the same base curve and are heldtogether by surface tension. This lens systemallows reduction of light scattering from the sur-face of objective lens. It also eliminates invasion ofthe interface by tear mucous of the patient. Thepossibility of epithelial damage by the objectivelens is minimized by the present system.
