  • Look Inside

We performed trabeculotomy in 145 eyes, 101 cases, with primary open angle glaucoma or pseudoexfoliation syndrome during a 13-month period. The surgical procedure and the follow-up were performed according to a prospective plan. All the eyes satisfied the criteria before surgery : no prior history of eye surgery, intraocular pressure could not be controlled under 21 mmHg by medica-tion, presence of glaucomatous visual field change, and presence of glaucomatous disc cupping.

The intraocular pressure was kept below 21mmHg, with or without medication, in 89% of eyes at 6 months and in 82% at 12 months after surgery. Even in the well-controlled group, some eyes manifested further deterioration of visual field.
