  • Look Inside

We evaluated the clinical value of topical dipive-frine hydrochloride (DE-016) in 110 eyes, 58 cases, with primary open angle glaucoma or ocular hyper-tension. DE-016 was instilled as 0.04 % solution in 56 eyes, 30 cases, and as 0.1 % solution in 54 eyes, 28 cases. At the end of 4 weeks of treatment, the intraocular pressure (IOP) was controlled below 22 mmHg in 77 % and 82 % of the eyes with 0.04 % and 0.1 % DE-016 respectively. There was no signif-icant difference in the IOP-lowering effect between DE-016 of either concentration on the one hand and beta-blockers (timolol, carteolol, befunolol) on the other.

The findings indicate that DE-016 promises to be of value and to be equally potent as beta-blockers in the treatment of primary open angle glaucoma and ocular hypertension.
