We designed a new glaucoma mass-screening system based on self-examination of visual field in hospitalized health-check program (human-dock-yard). Self-examination of visual field using Fried-mann visual field analyser was performed by a pair of subjects, and the results were checked by orth-optists. Of the 6738 subjects in the dockyard, 4426 (8852 eyes) underwent the self-examination volun-tarily. Of the 1460 eyes showing suspected visual field defects, re-examination of the visual field byorthoptists confirmed the visual field defects in 60 (0.7%) eyes. Precise examination of visual field by Goldmann perimeter and medical examination by the doctors revealed the glaucomatous field defects in 26 (0.3%) eyes. The correlation between eyes with Friedmann visual defect and the glaucomatous field defect was high (43%). We recommend this practical and efficient system for glaucoma mass -screening.
