We evaluated 9-0 surgical thread made of poly-glycolic acid (PGA) when used to close the limbal incision in intracapsular cataract extraction (ICCE) in 18 eyes and in planned extracapsular cataract extrac-tion (ECCE) in 14 eyes. Interrupted sutures with 9-0 PGA showed high tensile strength, smooth and handy properties, and firm nots in ICCE. Conjunctival injection around the site of sutures was a frequent occurrence, suggesting PGA to be more adequate when used in continuous suture. In ECCE, 9-0 PGA when used as shoe string suture showed no complications and resulted in satisfactory outcomes.
