緒　言

　新しい手術術式や器具と同様に，器材の開発と改良は，手術成績の向上はもとより術後の苦痛を軽減し加療期間を短縮するなど多くの点で極めて重要である。眼科手術において縫合糸の占める役割は大きく，その進歩には常に関心を持たざるをえない問題である。

　合成・吸収性縫合糸の1種であるポリグリコール酸縫合糸は，1968年American Cyanamid社のDevis　＆　Geck部門で開発され，1971年にDexonの名称で製品化され，すでに日本にも輸入されており，外科の各分野で広く使用されてゆく傾向にある。

We evaluated 7-0 undyed polyglycolic acid suture (Dexon) for cataract surgery. Intracapsu-lar lens extractions were performed in 56 senile cataracts using a limbus-based conjunctival flap, one preplaced mattress suture and 4 to 6 post-placed sutures. The 7-0 Dexon had good tensile strength and not tendency to knot slippage. There were no abnormal sturue reactions and no signif-icant complications except for 4 cases with a large filtering bleb which disappeared spontane-ously. The filtering bleb formation was prevent-ed by tight suturing of sclerocorneal wound in subsequent cases.
