  • Look Inside

A 17-year-old male developed persistent hypotonic maculopathy due to traumatic cyclodialysis when his right eye was hit by a flying piece of fireworks. Gonios-copically, cyclodialysis was present over an arc of 60 degrees in the superior segment of the angle.

Ten weeks after the trauma, we applied photocoagulation to the site of cyclodialysis with a view to cure ocular hypotony. Five days after applying a total of 173 burns in two sessions, the intraocular pressure started to rise followed by improvement in hypotonic maculopathy and visual acuity during the ensuing 2 months.

Laser photocoagulation appears to be a preferred mode of treatment for ocular hypotony of traumatic origin because of its lesser insult to the eye and because of its repeatability.
