  • Look Inside

We examined a series of 62 patients with adult type inclusion conjunctivitis by immunofluorescent antibody test, isolation and giemsa staining to detect chlamydial infection. The finding was positive in 41 % in tissue culture by cycloheximide treated McCoy cell, 32 % by Micro Trak and 14 % giemsa stain of the scraped conjunctiva. Chlamydial conjunctivitis was the most frequent in young adult males with urethritis. It often developed as unilateral, acute follicular conjunctivitis associated with hyperemia and eye discharges.Chlamydial conjunctivitis is to be suspected in adult patients with unilateral acute follicular connjunctivitis that may simulate epidemic keratoconjunctivitis.
