  • Look Inside

Habitual sniffing of glue, or organic solvent, has become popular among some sector of youngsters. It has resulted in occasional toxic complications.

We observed 3 habitual glue sniffers aged 14, 15 and 24 years each. All the cases noticed sudden to subacute impairment of visual acuity. They mani-fested central scotoma, optic atrophy and presumed optic nerve involvement. Fluorescein fundus angio-graphy showed granular background hyperfluo-rescence suggesting impaired retinal pigment epithe-lium.

Electroretinogram was reduced in amplitude in one case and was increased in 2 cases.
