  • Look Inside

We evaluated the circulating immune complexes in patients with various endogenous uveitis includ-ing 62 cases of Behçet's disease, 44 cases of Harada's disease and 25 cases of anterior uveitis of unknown etiology. We employed radioimmunoassay using Raji cells.

The mean value of circulating immune com-plexes was 3.57 μg AHG Eq/ml in healthy controls, 5.80 in Behçet's disease, 4.79 in Harada's disease and 9.85 in anterior uveitis of unknown etiology. The value of immune complexes was significantly high in anterior uveitis of unknown etiology (t= 2.70, p<0.05).

An elevation of immune complex level over the mean normal value+2 s.d. (standard deviation) was obeserved in 10 out of 62 patients with Behcet's disease, 5 out of 44 with Harada's disease and 5 of 25 with anterior uveitis of unknown etiology.

Cases with Behcet's disease, Harada's disease and anterior uveitis of unknown etiology showed higher immune complex levels during acute attacks or active phases than during remissions or inactive phases of the disease.
