  • Look Inside

In 516 eyes of consecutive retinal detachment surgeries performed in 3 years between 1979 and 1982, two types of complications were observed due to vortex vein damage.

The one was acute vitreous hemorrhage and the other was late vitreous opacity. The acute vitreous hemorrhage occurred in 2 cases, in which 4 (case 1) and 3 (case 2) vortex veins were damaged by sever-ence or compression with silicone implant. A severe vitreous hemorrhage developed on 3rd to 6th post-operative day accompanied with corneal edema, shallow anterior chamber and hyphema.
