Panretinal photocoagulation using argon laser was performed on 41 eyes (23 cases) with prolif-erative diabetic retinopathy and were followed up for 6 to 24 months after treatment. The cases included 19 eyes (13 cases) with retinal neovas-cularization and eyes (15 cases) with advanced proliferative retinopathy associated with optic disc neovascularization.
When judged in terms of visual acuity and fundus findings, panretinal photocoagulation was fairly effective (84%) for retinopathies without optic disc neovascularization. Lyes with optic disc neovascularization showed a tendency for recurrence 3 to 6 months after treatment.
