  • Abstract
  • Look Inside

Twenty-eight eyes (22 cases) with rubeosis iridis diabetica with or without ocular hyper-tension were treated by panretinal photocoagula-tion and/or cryotherapy of the midperipheral retina and the ciliary body. As rationale of these therapeutic modalities, it was assumed that thepresence of extensive areas of retinal non-per-fusion was the chief cause of neovascularization of the iris and the trabecular meshwork. Clinical evaluation 3 months after the treatment has shown that the rubeosis iridis significantly re-gressed in 7 out of 18 eyes. The initially increased ocular tension was normalized in 9 out of the 10 eyes.
