Quantitative Analysis of the Smooth Pursuit Eye Movement

緒　言

　神経眼科領域において，指標を追跡する眼球運動がどのようなパターンで動いているかによつて，中枢神経系疾病の障害部位を診断しようとする試みがされてきているが，障害程度や治療効果を知るためには眼球運動の定量的診断法が重要である。しかし，従来，指標として等速でない振子様刺激を用いて正弦波状の滑動性眼球運動（smo-oth pursuit eye movement）を記録し，その滑らかな正弦波に衝動性眼球運動（saccadic eye mo-vement）が混入して，階段波形（staircase patte-rn）になるかどうかをみる定性的診断法が行われてきた。

　最近の神経生理学の進歩によつて，滑動性眼球運動（smooth pursuit），衝動性眼球運動（saccadic）および前庭動眼反射（vcstibular ocular reflex）における神経機構については図1のごとき仮説が有力視されている^1）。滑動性眼球運動は指標速度に眼球運動速度を一致させることによつて，映像を網膜中心窩に安定させるように働く眼球運動である。猿の後頭葉視覚領野の単一ニューロンからの神経活動パターンは映像が網膜上を動く比率に応じて発火頻度変調がおこることを示している^2）。

Visual sinusoidal wave target has been used for the recording of the smooth pursuit eye mo-vement. But the smooth pursuit system stabilizes images on the fovea during tracking by match-ing eye velocity to target velocity. So, triangular or ramp wave targets should be used for detailed analysis of the pursuit eye movement, because the target velocity is constant. The gain of the pursuit eye movement (ratio of induced maxi-mum eye velocity to target velocity) was mea-sured by changing the target velocity from 10°/ sec to 100°/sec.
