失明の原因調査

Investigation into the causes of the blindness

緒言

　昭和31年4月17日角膜移植に関する法律が制定され，我々眼科医がかねがね念願して居た角膜移植の材料が合法的に入手出来るようになつたので一段と手術し易くなつた事は真に喜ばしい限りである。

　此の時にあたり私共国立病院眼科で共同研究として失明防止班が作られ，当眼科もその一員として失明の実態を調査し，併せて角膜移植其の他で開眼が可能な者を調べる目的で，先ず昭和23年から昭和32年迄の10年間に亘り当眼科外来患者に就て調査した。茲に其の結果を報告する次第である。

With a view of prenenting the blindness, the author made a survey of the patients who visited the Ophthalmic Clinic of the National Toyohashi Hospital in the lapse of a decade from the 1948, handling those whose one-sided vision in 0.05 on less as blind persons.

1) Of a total number of 15,336 persons who made a new visit to the clinic, 913 (5.95%) suffered with loss of eyesight, 701 of them had it in one eye and 212 in both eyes, making a tolal of 1,1250 eyes.
