徳島県下における農薬の使用量と近視学童の推移

Organophosphorous Pesticides as A Cause of Myopia in School Children : A Statistical Study

緒言

　最近学童の近視が増加していることは，世界共通の問題とされている。徳島県でも学童の近視は増加しており，この原因にはいろいろのことが推論されている。石川らは，佐久地方に発生した原因不明の眼疾患の研究をおしすすめ，慢性有機燐農薬中毒によつて近視が発生することを証明した。したがつて学童の近視の一部が有機燐農薬が原因となつておこつている可能性がある。しかし軽症の有機燐農薬中毒によつておこつた近視があつたとしても，それは一般に行なわれている眼科の検査では他の原因による近視と区別することはできない。有機燐農薬と学童の近視との関係を知るためには，統計的，疫学的調査が必要である。よつて私どもは，今回徳島県下の学童の近視の罹患率の推移と農薬の使用量の推移を比較調査して，両者の関係を検討した。

It is well known that there has been an inc-reasing tendency in the incidence of myopia among school-children. Ishikawa and his colla-borators have shown that an intoxication of organophosphorous pesticides caused myopia. It was thus supposed that the widespread use of this pesticide might be one of the causes of therecent myopia of school-children. However, if such myopia presents, it is difficult to differ-entiate this kind of myopia from other kinds of myopia. Thus authors undertook an epidem-iological and statistical survey.
