  • Look Inside

A case of serum hyperviscosity syndrome associated with Sjögren's syndrome is reported.

The patient was a 53-year-old female, with visual disturbances and occasional nasal bleeding as chief complaints. Ophthalmological studies revealed the presence of striking venous dila-tation and sausage-like tortuosity, multiple he-morrhages of the retina and keratitis sicca. The vascular disorders of the fundus and the nasal bleeding have been interpreted as due to serum hyperviscosity. In the present case, the hyper-viscosity syndrome was related with an increase in IgA.
